From sarah to serena – a historical review of the medical mistreatment of black women
Black women in the United States are two to three times more likely than white women to die during pregnancy, regardless of income or education. Some may ask, how is this possible in one of the wealthiest countries in the world? Through this educational video, viewers will learn how the current health disparities experienced by Black women in the United States can be linked to the transatlantic slave trade and medical mistreatment in the health care system. In order to truly achieve health equity, it is necessary for us all to not only learn about our history, but to also acknowledge it and make every stride towards not repeating it.
